The gold variant still has a shallower drawdown, but its ending value gap versus the base portfolio widened this month.

Save a portfolio, rerun it, and watch what changes.

Portfolio monitoring turns a one-time backtest into a recurring review process. Instead of checking markets manually, users can monitor a portfolio against saved rules and receive a clear update when new data changes allocation drift, downside risk, relative performance, or the strength of the original comparison.

Four checks behind portfolio monitoring.

New data reruns

The saved portfolio is recalculated when new market data is available. The system keeps the same assets, weights, date logic, and rebalance rule so users can see whether the original backtest conclusion still looks similar after the latest data arrives.

Relative performance

Portfolio monitoring compares the base portfolio with saved variants over time. If the gap widens, narrows, or reverses, the alert focuses on the comparison that changed rather than sending a generic market update.

Risk range

A portfolio can remain profitable while its downside profile gets worse. Monitoring watches drawdown, volatility, and recovery behavior so users know when the risk side of the trade-off has moved outside the original range.

Allocation drift

Allocation drift happens when market movement changes portfolio weights. A 60/30/10 portfolio can become meaningfully different after a long rally or selloff. Monitoring makes that drift visible before the saved backtest stops representing the actual portfolio.

Return when something meaningful changed.

PortfolioBacktest summarizes the event in plain language and links directly to the affected comparison. Notifications are portfolio updates, not buy or sell signals. Each alert explains which saved rule changed, which comparison was affected, and whether the user should review the portfolio manually.

Monitor vs backtest: what changes after the first result?

How do I monitor my portfolio?

First create or import a portfolio, then save the backtest and choose which variables to monitor. PortfolioBacktest can monitor portfolio drift, updated risk metrics, relative performance, and whether a saved comparison still supports the same conclusion.

What is allocation drift?

Allocation drift occurs when asset weights move away from target weights because prices changed. For example, a stock-heavy rally can increase equity exposure even if the investor did not buy more stocks.

Are alerts buy or sell signals?

No. Portfolio alerts are review signals. They identify changes in saved evidence, assumptions, or risk conditions. They do not tell users to buy, sell, or hold any security.

What is the difference between backtesting and monitoring?

Backtesting answers how a portfolio behaved over a selected period. Monitoring answers whether the saved portfolio and its conclusion changed after new data arrived.
